Relative Paracentral Scotomas

Relative Paracentral Scotomas are an eye disorder where the patient experiences a partial or complete loss of vision in the paracentral area of the visual field. The paracentral area is near the center of the field of vision and any impairment to that area can significantly affect a person’s ability to perform everyday tasks such as reading, writing and driving. Common causes of Relative Paracentral Scotomas include trauma to the eye, medications, or underlying medical conditions such as stroke, diabetes, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. Treatment for this condition generally includes prescription eyewear, laser therapy, and specialized eye exercises. It is important for patients to seek medical attention as soon as possible if they experience any symptoms suggestive of Relative Paracentral Scotomas. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent further vision loss.
