Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer that affects the ovaries of women. This cancer begins when abnormal cells grow in the ovaries, which are two small organs located in the lower abdomen. Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cancer among women in the United States and is the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancer. Symptoms of ovarian cancer may include abdominal bloating, pain, feeling full quickly, or frequent urination. Women who are at an increased risk of developing ovarian cancer may include those with a family history of the disease, personal history of breast or colorectal cancer, and age over 60. Treatment for ovarian cancer can include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Early detection of the disease is key in order to increase the chances of successful treatment.
