Ocular Surface Physiology and Therapeutic Pharmacology
Ocular surface physiology and therapeutic pharmacology is the study of the structure, function and effects of drugs on the surface of the eye, including the conjunctiva, cornea and eyelids. This field of study is important as it provides insight into the appropriate pharmacological treatments for diseases, disorders and infections of the eye, as well as offering potential new treatments for age-related eye conditions and other eye issues. Additionally, it helps clinicians better assess and understand the changes that take place to the eye surface due to disease processes, giving them the opportunity to improve patient outcomes. In summary, ocular surface physiology and therapeutic pharmacology offers understanding and potential treatments for diseases, disorders and infections of the eye, as well as diseases related to aging.
