Neovascularization
Neovascularization is the process of new blood vessels forming from existing vessels. It is an important natural process as it allows for fresh nutrient and oxygen supply to organs and tissues. It is most commonly seen in embryonic development, wound healing and tumour growth. In medicine, neovascularization can be used to improve the performance of transplanted organs, decrease inflammation and promote the regeneration of damaged tissue. Neovascularization is also studied to gain a better understanding of various pathologies such as cancer, coronary diseases and diabetic retinopathy.
