Intraocular Pressure
Intraocular pressure (IOP) is the pressure inside the eye. It is determined by the balance between the production and drainage of aqueous humor, the fluid found in the eye. Abnormalities in this pressure can lead to a variety of ocular diseases including glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness. A variety of methods including tonometry and gonioscopy are used to measure IOP and allow early diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases. As a result, regular monitoring and control of IOP is an important factor in preventing vision loss.
