Glaucoma and Nutrition
Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions which causes damage to the optic nerve, resulting in irreversible vision loss. Nutritional factors have been linked to the risk of glaucoma, as well as its progression and severity. Adequate diet and lifestyle play an important role in preventing and managing glaucoma, such as eating foods high in antioxidants, avoiding certain foods, supplementing diet with vitamins, maintaining healthy body weight, and exercising regularly. As such, nutrition is a key component in managing glaucoma and can be an effective tool to help slow down its progression.
