Glaucoma and Alcohol
Glaucoma is a degenerative eye disease that can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. Alcohol can increase the risk of developing glaucoma by disrupting the flow of fluids within the eye, which can in turn lead to optic nerve damage. Consumption of alcohol can also cause one's eye pressure to rise, which is another risk factor for developing glaucoma. It is important to be aware that even moderate alcohol consumption can increase the risk for glaucoma, and heavy drinking can significantly increase the risk. Prevention is key, so if you have glaucoma or are at risk for glaucoma, limiting or avoiding alcohol would be a wise decision.
