Flow Diversion

Flow diversion is an engineering technique used to re-route water flows in order to control flooding, reduce erosion, or facilitate the use of a river for recreation or energy production. It involves the construction of physical barriers, such as dams or levees, to alter the course of the water. It also includes the use of natural features, such as vegetation or rocks, to divert the flow. Flow diversion can have potential benefits for a variety of stakeholders, from flooding control for local households to improved water quality for aquatic ecosystems. In addition, it can help to reduce storm surge during extreme weather events, contributing to improved public safety. Flow diversion is thus an important tool for water resource management, providing multiple benefits for a range of users.
