Exfoliative Glaucoma

Exfoliative glaucoma is a type of glaucoma, a progressive eye condition that can lead to vision loss. It is caused by an accumulation of the protein exfoliin from the tear film, which can build up and damage the eye's optic nerve. Exfoliative glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness, and is more common in older people and those with family history of the condition. Treatment involves the use of medications and/or surgery to reduce pressure in the eye and slow or halt the advancement of the disease. Early diagnosis and treatment is essential to improve the outcome for those with exfoliative glaucoma.
