Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty

Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) is a modern corneal transplantation procedure for restoring vision in patients suffering from corneal endothelial dysfunction. DMEK utilizes only the diseased cornea's innermost layer, the Descemet membrane, and the endothelial cells of the donor cornea, preserving the patient's natural corneal anatomy and making the healing process faster. The technique has been revolutionary in restoring vision in these patients with minimal post-operative discomfort and superior visual outcomes, while reducing the time and complexity of corneal transplantation substantially.
