Mild Cognitive Impairment
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a condition most commonly diagnosed in older adults, characterised by changes in memory and thinking skills that are noticeable, but not as severe as those caused by dementia. It can lead to dementia or may remain stable, depending on the individual and the particular type of MCI. MCI is associated with an increased risk of developing dementia, although not all individuals with MCI move on to develop the condition. MCI is significant as it can provide an opportunity for early detection of dementia, allowing for appropriate support and interventions that can help individuals with MCI manage and delay the progression of the condition.
