Captive Breeding
Captive breeding is the practice of raising and managing the reproductive cycles of wildlife in a secure, human-controlled environment. It is a key conservation technique used to restore and maintain species in the wild, and to supplement wild populations in the future. By controlling the genetic composition of the captive population and the environment it is raised in, captive breeding can help reduce the risk of extinction of certain species due to loss of habitat and natural disasters. Captive breeding can also be used as a source of reintroduced individuals to a wild population, and can be used to increase genetic diversity and reduce genetic bottlenecks in a species. The technique is also used to provide a reliable source of animals for zoological and educational displays.
