Weight Cycling

Weight cycling, also known as yo-yo dieting, is a pattern of weight loss followed by a period of weight gain in which a person returns to their pre-diet or near pre-diet weight, or even higher than their pre-diet weight. Weight cycling increases risks of long-term health problems, including an increased risk of higher mortality, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. It also has serious impacts on mental health, leading to body image issues, disordered eating habits, and a decreased sense of self-esteem. Effective strategies for avoiding weight cycling include eating a nutritious diet, incorporating physical activity into daily and weekly routines, and making long-term lifestyle changes for better health.
