Substance Abuse

Substance abuse is the harmful use of substances such as alcohol, drugs, and other substances for non-medical or recreational purposes. It can lead to physical, psychological, and social problems. Substance abuse can disrupt normal functioning, create physical and mental health issues, and interfere with family, work, and other responsibilities. Substance abuse can also lead to addiction, a chronic and relapsing disease. Treatment of substance abuse includes counseling, medication, and group therapy to help individuals learn to cope with, manage, and recover from their addiction.
