Sleep Disorders
Sleep disorders are a group of disorders that impede healthy, restful sleep. They can be caused by a variety of factors, such as physical or mental health conditions, lifestyle choices, or medications. Common sleep disorders include insomnia, hypersomnia, sleep apnea, sleep deprivation, narcolepsy, and restless legs syndrome. Sleep disorders can have a significant impact on a person's overall quality of life and can lead to physical and mental health problems, increased risk of injury, decreased cognitive functioning, and reduced productivity. In addition, sleep disorders can affect social relationships and overall well-being. Treatment of sleep disorders is important for restoring quality of life and for preventing further medical issues. Treatment options include lifestyle changes, such as avoiding caffeine, exercising regularly, and establishing a regular sleep schedule, as well as medications, psychotherapy, and other medical interventions.
