Muscularity-oriented Disordered Eating
Muscularity-oriented disordered eating is an eating disorder that is characterized by an obsessive preoccupation with increased muscle size, resulting in extreme, risky dieting and exercise behaviors that can lead to unhealthy and sometimes dangerous weight levels. This type of disordered eating is especially prominent in men, although it can occur in people of any gender. These behaviors can cause long-term physical and psychological damage and can lead to chronic health problems, such as malnutrition, anemia, and body dysmorphia. Treatment for this disorder typically involves a combination of psychotherapy, nutrition counseling, and behavior modification therapy. It is important to recognize the signs of muscle-oriented disordered eating and to seek help if needed in order to prevent serious, long-term health conseqences.
