Muscle Dysmorphia
Muscle dysmorphia is an eating disorder that is characterized by an extreme preoccupation with having a muscular physique, oftentimes leading to potentially dangerous behaviors related to diet and exercise. People with this disorder have an altered perception of their own body shape, often seeing themselves as too small, no matter how much they exercise and how much muscle they gain. This disorder can have serious implications on physical and mental health, including increased risks of heart problems, depression, and social isolation. Treatment usually involves psychotherapy, nutrition counseling, and medical monitoring.
