Disordered Eating
Disordered eating is a range of abnormal eating behaviors and attitudes that are characterized by an excessive preoccupation with food, body shape or weight. It can lead to serious psychological and physical health problems, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and other eating disorders. Eating disorders are serious medical illnesses that are associated with severe disturbances in a person's eating behaviors, thought patterns, and emotional regulation. They are treatable, but have the highest mortality rate of any mental disorder. Treatment of disordered eating usually involves a combination of psychotherapy, medical care and nutrition counseling. With comprehensive treatment, individuals can recover from an eating disorder and improve their overall physical and mental health.
