Cytokines and Diabetes
Cytokines are small proteins that are released by cells to communicate with other cells and play a key role in regulating several different functions within the body. In diabetes, these cytokines can have a significant impact on the body's ability to process sugar. Unregulated levels of cytokines are found in those with diabetes, preventing the body from releasing enough insulin to properly process sugar levels. As a result, it is important to monitor cytokine levels in those with diabetes in order to help maintain stability in sugar levels. Furthermore, medications and lifestyle modifications can be used to help control the levels of cytokines. By doing this, diabetes management and prevention of complications can be improved.
