Adipose Tissue
Adipose tissue is a type of connective tissue composed of cells called adipocytes, which store and release fat. It is found all over the body, under the skin, and around organs, like the stomach, heart, and liver. Adipose tissue plays an important role in the body, including providing insulation from cold temperatures and storing energy. Adipose tissue also helps regulate hormones and metabolism, and helps cushion and protect organs. By improving our understanding of adipose tissue, research may also lead to new treatments for obesity and related conditions.
