Oxidative Stress
Oxidative stress has emerged as an essential factor in the pathogenesis of COVID-19. It is caused by the excess accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) due to the immune system's response to the virus. These ROS can cause significant damage to cells and tissues, leading to respiratory distress, organ failure, and other severe health complications. Several natural antioxidants, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and selenium, have been proposed to have potential benefits in reducing oxidative stress in COVID-19 patients. These antioxidants can be obtained from a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. Therefore, it is essential to identify and develop effective strategies to mitigate oxidative stress in COVID-19 patients. This can lead to improved patient outcomes, reduced healthcare costs, and a better understanding of the disease's mechanism.
