Epidemiology

Coronaviruses belong to a large family of viruses that can cause illnesses in animals and humans. One of the latest strains of coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, has caused the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected millions of people globally. Epidemiology is the study of how diseases spread in populations, and it is critical to understanding the transmission and control of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, the virus has affected people in almost all countries around the world, with varying degrees of severity. The virus is primarily spread through respiratory droplets when an infected person talks, coughs or sneezes. It is also possible to contract the virus by touching a surface contaminated with the virus and then touching one's mouth, nose or eyes. Those infected with COVID-19 may experience a range of symptoms, from mild to severe, including fever, cough, shortness of breath, and loss of taste or smell. Older adults, people with underlying medical conditions, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of severe illness and death. The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted public health measures, such as social distancing, wearing of face masks, and frequent hand washing. On a global level, researchers are actively studying the virus to develop effective treatments and vaccines to mitigate its spread and mitigate its impact on society.
