Vaccine Development
Vaccine development is an important process that works to develop immunizations against infectious diseases. Through the introduction of a weakened or killed form of the pathogen, vaccines help to prepare the body’s immune system to fight off an infection if exposed to the virus in the future. Vaccines have been used to eradicate smallpox, protect against deadly illnesses such as polio, measles and influenza, and to reduce the spread of illnesses like HIV and HPV. Vaccine development has been a major contributor to improving public health, and ongoing advances in immunization research are essential for the continued protection of global health.
