Taphonomy
Taphonomy is the study of the processes involved in the formation and preservation of fossils. It helps to understand how ancient organisms became fossilized so that their remains can be studied today. Taphonomy is an important part of paleontology and archaeology, allowing us to understand the taphonomic processes at work in the formation of various types of fossils, including bones, footprints and plant remains. Taphonomy also helps to determine the environmental conditions during the time when the fossilized organisms lived. This important knowledge is used to piece together the puzzle of how ancient ecosystems developed, as well as to inform environmental conservation efforts today.
