Sulfolobus

solfataricus Sulfolobus solfataricus is an archaeal microorganism found in volcanic hot springs that is capable of surviving in extreme temperatures (up to 95°C). It is an important model system for studying the evolution and adaptation of extremophilic organisms, as well as the biochemistry of proteins evolved to function at elevated temperatures. Additionally, its unique cellular machinery makes it a promising organism for biotechnological applications, especially in the industrial production of enzymes, organic acids, and biofuels. Its potential as a bio-resource is actively being explored.
