Pure Culture
A pure culture is a cell or colony of cells of a single organism or species in a laboratory setting. It is significant because it allows scientists to study the growth and behavior of that species in a controlled environment. Pure cultures are used in a variety of ways, such as in pharmaceutical production, research on diseases, genetic engineering, and the production of bioplastics and biofuels. They are also used in food fermentation and are important for monitoring the pathogenicity of bacterial strains. By isolating a single species, scientists gain insight into the organism’s behavior and qualities, which can then be used to manipulate it to serve various purposes.
