Prevotella

Prevotella is a genus of Gram-negative bacteria found in the gut microbiome. They are important for human health, as they help to digest carbohydrates and break down dietary fibers, leveraging their enzymatic capabilities to produce short-chain fatty acids that nourish the lining of the gut. Additionally, some Prevotella species have been found to produce antimicrobial compounds that protect the gastrointestinal identity. Prevotella is a significant part of the human microbiota and its balance is important for maintaining good health.
