Peptostreptococcus
Peptostreptococcus is a Gram-positive species of bacteria that resides in the normal flora of humans. It is both anaerobic (not requiring oxygen to survive) and facultative anaerobic (able to survive with or without oxygen). Peptostreptococcus can cause various infections, including bacteremia, abscesses, and endocarditis. This species of bacteria is also responsible for causing mouth, throat, and skin infections. It can be treated using antibiotics, such as penicillin. It is important to correctly identify and diagnose Peptostreptococcus to ensure an appropriate treatment is obtained.
