Mycology
Mycology is the scientific study of fungi, which are eukaryotic (nucleated) organisms that can be single-celled or multicellular. Fungi are essential for nature and the environment, as they are responsible for many key ecological processes, such as decomposition in the soil, nutrient cycling, and controlling pest populations. Due to their wide-ranging role in our environment, fungi are important for maintaining a healthy ecosystem. They are also used in many practical applications, including as sources of food and medicine, as well as producing a wide range of enzymes and chemicals that are used in industry and biotechnology. Mycology is a rapidly growing field of science, with increasing interest in uncovering the potential of fungi for a range of areas, including environmental sustainability, health, and food security.
