Microorganisms

Microorganisms are the smallest forms of life, typically formed of single cells and invisible to the naked eye. They can be found virtually everywhere, from soil to our own bodies! These tiny creatures play a hugely important role in the functioning of our planet, helping to process energy and nutrients, breaking down organic matter and aiding in the formation of soil. Many microorganisms also have important uses in biotechnology, medicine and food production, such as in the production of antibiotics, yogurt and cheese. Thanks to their ability to survive in a range of environments, they are also used in bioremediation, helping to clean up hazardous sites, and even in space research. All in all, microorganisms are vital to the environment and our daily lives, and as such deserve our appreciation and respect!
