Microbial Pathogenesis

Microbial pathogenesis is the study of the mechanisms by which microorganisms cause disease in their hosts. Understanding microbial pathogenesis is crucial for developing strategies to prevent, diagnose and treat infections. Research in this field helps to identify the molecular, biochemical and immunological pathways of microbial infection and to develop new drugs, diagnostics and vaccines that target these pathways. In addition, microbial pathogenesis research has aided in the understanding of human physiology and immunity, and continues to provide new insights into how pathogens interact with their host environment.
