Food Microbiology
Food microbiology is the study of the microorganisms found in food and the effects these organisms have on food's safety, quality, and suitability for consumption. It plays an important role in the production, preservation and processing of food. Microorganisms can cause food to spoil or become contaminated, thus posing a health risk to humans if consumed. Therefore, food microbiology is essential for the safe production and handling of food from farm to fork. Microorganisms can also have useful attributes, such as providing food with unique flavours and textures as well as offering natural preservation methods. The study of food microbiology can help identify ways to make food safer, tastier, and more nutritious.
