Etest
Etest is an antimicrobial resistance detection system used in clinical microbiology laboratories for the rapid, economical, and reliable determination of antibiotic susceptibilities. It is an automated method for predicting the susceptibility of microorganisms to antibiotics based on their respective growth patterns. The Etest is a system that uses a plastic strip with predefined concentrations of antibiotics along with a special paper or plastic indicator layer. After the microorganism is inoculated onto the strip, it is incubated and the growth of the microorganism is compared to the strip, allowing for an accurate and reliable determination of an organism’s susceptibility to antimicrobial agents. The Etest is a cost-effective, rapid, easy-to-use, and data-rich method that provides valuable data for labs conducting antimicrobial susceptibility tests.
