Enterobiasis

Enterobiasis is a type of parasitic infection caused by the human pinworm, Enterobius vermicularis. It is considered to be one of the most common human helminth infections, with estimates of up to 50% of children suffering from some degree of infection at some point in their lives. It is marked by severe itching in the anal region and is highly contagious, with transmission mostly occurring through contact with contaminated surfaces and/or objects. The aim of treatment of enterobiasis is to reduce the risk of spread and to control the symptoms. Currently, the most common and effective treatment for this infection is a single dose of the medication mebendazole. Additionally, good hygiene practices, such as washing hands frequently and changing bedding regularly, are recommended to help reduce the risk of spread.
