Drug Allergy
Drug allergy is a medical condition in which an individual has an adverse reaction to one or more drugs. Symptoms of a drug allergy can range from mild skin rash or itching to anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening reaction that can cause difficulty breathing, low blood pressure and loss of consciousness. Diagnosis and treatment of drug allergy involves avoiding the drug, treating the symptoms and possibly desensitization. Drug allergies are the most common cause of anaphylaxis in the United States and can be serious, but with proper medical management, the risks of a drug allergy reaction can often be minimized.
