Diphtheria
Diphtheria is a contagious and serious bacterial infection that primarily affects the respiratory system. It is caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium diphtheria and typically spreads through person-to-person contact. Diphtheria is highly contagious and can have serious complications if not treated promptly and correctly. Symptoms include a thick, grey coating on the throat, difficulty breathing, fever, and swollen glands. Vaccination is the most effective prevention against diphtheria, and routine vaccination of children is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Early diagnosis and treatment, as well as prompt vaccination, are important for the prevention of severe complications and death associated with this disease.
