Bartonellosis
Bartonellosis is a bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Bartonella. This infection primarily affects the bloodstream and lymph nodes, but can also affect the skin, eyes, heart and brain. Symptoms of Bartonellosis include fever, headaches, aching joints, red skin rash, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue. Treatment typically involves antibiotics and supportive care. Without treatment, the infection can become chronic and cause serious complications such as heart disease and brain infections. People who are immunosuppressed, such as those with HIV/AIDS, are at higher risk of complications. Bartonellosis is most commonly found in areas where cats are common, as cats are the primary reservoir for the bacterium. It is important to be aware of the risk of Bartonellosis and take measures to reduce exposure.
