Bacteriophages
Bacteriophages (also known as phages) are viruses that attack and infect bacteria. They are the most abundant biological entities on Earth and are important tools in modern molecular biology. Phages are used in research to study the structure and function of bacterial cells, as well as in biotechnology processes such as gene delivery and gene editing. In medicine, phage therapy is being developed as an alternative to antibiotics, to treat infections caused by drug-resistant bacteria. Additionally, phages are being explored for their potential use in bioremediation and biosensing applications. As such, bacteriophages are becoming increasingly important for advancing our knowledge about the biology of bacteria and for solving many of the current medical and environmental issues we face today.
