Antigens
Antigens are molecules found on the surface of cells and in the fluid of some organisms, such as viruses or bacteria. These molecules are recognized by the body’s immune system as “foreign” and stimulate the production of antibodies, which then help to fight off any potential infection. Antigens can be found on the cell surface or in the fluid of bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses. Their unique structure allows the body to distinguish them and mount the appropriate immune response. This makes antigens an important part of the body’s defense against infection and disease, and they play a key role in vaccinations, diagnosis, and research.
