Chemotherapy for Esophageal Cancer
Chemotherapy is a treatment used to kill cancer cells in patients with esophageal cancer. It involves taking drugs that are designed to selectively target and damage cancer cells while leaving healthy cells largely unscathed. In some cases, it may be used alone or in combination with surgery, radiation therapy, or a combination of these therapies. In other cases, chemotherapy may be used to shrink tumors before surgery or to reduce the risk of recurrence after surgery. Chemotherapy has been shown to be effective in treating esophageal cancer, improving patients' overall survival, and is often the only treatment option available.
