Spermatogonia

Spermatogonia are the most primordial male germ cells of the testis. They are capable of undergoing mitotic cell division and thus, constitute the main source of sperm production. Their importance lies in the fact that they are the beginning of the male germline, which is responsible for the transmission of genetic and epigenetic information from father to offspring. Spermatogonia also play a role in spermatogenesis, the maturation process of sperm cells, which is necessary for successful sperm fertilization and thus, for human reproduction.
