Mannosylation
Mannosylation is a post-translational modification, where a sugar molecule known as mannose is added to a protein. It is an important process in mammals, as it is involved in a variety of physiological functions, including cell adhesion, inflammation and immune response, and the formation of synapses. Mannosylation is an important step to create a functional protein, as it alters the protein’s activity and increases its stability. It also plays an important role in drug delivery, as it can be used to attach drugs to proteins for targeted drug delivery. Mannosylation within the pharmaceutical industry is being studied to create more effective and targeted treatments.
