Lysogeny

Lysogeny is a process of viral infection in which the viral DNA is integrated into the bacterial chromosome and can remain in a dormant state for a long period of time. This process has an important role in prokaryotic survival, as it can protect the bacterium from other viruses, as well as acting as an important tool for genetic recombination. Lysogeny is also used for biotechnological applications, as lysogenic bacteria can be used to produce proteins of interest. Additionally, lysogeny has also been used to develop vaccine vectors and to study the genetic material of microorganisms.
