Intracellular Pathogens

Intracellular pathogens are disease-causing microbes, such as bacteria and viruses, that can enter and infect the cells of a host organism. They can cause a wide range of illnesses and can be spread through physical contact, contact with contaminated objects, and inhaling respiratory droplets. Intracellular pathogens have the ability to manipulate the cell they infect and can cause serious damage, including death. An understanding of intracellular pathogens is essential for the development of therapies to treat the infections they cause, as well as for the development of targeted prevention strategies to reduce the spread of these diseases.
