Glycolysis
Glycolysis is the metabolic process that breaks down glucose to generate energy. It is the basis of nearly all forms of life, from bacteria to humans, and is present in virtually all organisms, from the single-celled to the complex. It is the first step of carbohydrate metabolism which is necessary for the growth and survival of cells. Glycolysis is a key process in cellular energy production and is important for energy production in the body and energy storage in the form of glycogen. It is also important in the metabolism of some amino acids and lipids. Glycolysis is a fundamental process in the human body, providing energy for cells, tissues and organs to use.
