Energy Metabolism
Energy Metabolism is the set of chemical processes that occur within living cells in order to convert nutrients from the environment into energy the body can use. It is an essential process for the sustenance of life as it enables organisms to generate the energy they need to perform vital functions and to maintain homeostasis. Energy metabolism plays an important role in the regulation of weight and body composition, metabolic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and obesity, and other conditions such as fatigue. Understanding energy metabolism is also key to developing sustainable energy sources for industries, transportation and other activities.
