Endoplasmic Reticulum
The endoplasmic reticulum is a network of membranes in the cells of all organisms. It plays an important role in the production and processing of proteins, lipids and other molecules. It provides a route for the transportation of molecules within the cell, as well as for their export from the cell. Endoplasmic reticulum is crucial for the normal functioning of a cell and the organism. It helps maintain the proper levels of proteins and lipids, while also aiding in a variety of metabolic processes such as cell respiration, energy production and hormone production. Defects in endoplasmic reticulum can lead to a range of diseases, including cancers and neurological disorders.
