Developmental Signaling
Developmental signaling is a process in which molecules, such as hormones and proteins, bind to receptors on the surface of cells and send signals inside the cell. These signals initiate a cascade of events that eventually lead to changes in the cells’ development, such as division, differentiation, and migration. Developmental signaling plays a key role in the establishment of organs, the formation of embryos, and the growth and maintenance of organisms. Additionally, disruptions in developmental signaling can lead to various diseases, such as cancer. For this reason, much research is being done to better understand the signaling pathways and to identify ways to manipulate them for therapeutic purposes.
