Sarcopenia
Sarcopenia is a medical condition characterized by the gradual loss of muscle mass and strength in aging adults. It is a common problem in the elderly and can affect an individual’s ability to perform the basic activities of daily living. Sarcopenia is associated with reduced physical function, increased risk of falls and fractures, decreased quality of life and increased morbidity and mortality. Research suggests that lifestyle modifications such as regular exercise, healthy nutrition and adequate sleep can help prevent or slow down the progression of sarcopenia, allowing elderly people to maintain their independence and quality of life.
