Red Bone Marrow
Red bone marrow, also known as myeloid tissue, is a type of specialized tissue which can be found in the cavities of bones. It is best known for being an important source of production for red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. It plays a crucial role in the immune system by producing a number of different types of cells which are used to fight infection and disease. In addition, red bone marrow can also be used to treat a variety of diseases including certain types of leukaemia, anaemia and some inherited genetic disorders. In the last decade, the development of transplantation technology has allowed doctors to use red bone marrow to treat patients with these conditions, offering a potential lifesaving treatment to those in need.
